LEGO's holiday collection is open: here’s how to choose your Christmas gifts now at your leisure
On October 1st, LEGO's October wave went live, and The Brick Fan posted the list online the day before. The part that matters for gift seekers: the holiday series is now effectively available for purchase rather than just being announced.
Leading the way is the Icons Winter Village 11387 Holiday House. In addition, there is the Santa's Holiday Countdown 40874, Buddy the Elf 40865, Santa's Holiday Sleigh Adventure 40866, the enlarged Mrs. Claus minifigure 40875, the holiday ornaments 40862, and Christmas Stocking 40958.
Why the beginning of October is the quietest moment
For us, the gift season starts early. Sinterklaas is on December 5th, and Christmas follows closely behind. That means the rush breaks out in the second half of November, and you end up choosing with a deadline breathing down your neck.
Now, the series is just complete. That is the whole news, and that is also the only reason to look at it in October. Nothing in this list has been announced as limited or as going out of production, and we aren't going to suggest it just to make it sound more urgent than it is.
Which set suits whom
The names above might not mean anything to you, so let's look at it practically.
- For someone who loves to build and then display it: Winter Village 11387 Holiday House. This is the kind of set that stays on a shelf instead of going back in the box after two weeks. Tip: buy a light kit to go with it, and it will brighten up your Christmas village even more!
- For a child counting down to the holidays: Santa's Holiday Countdown 40874. The countdown is half the fun.
- For those who watch the movie every year: Buddy the Elf 40865.
- For a small gift or something to put under the tree: Santa's Holiday Sleigh Adventure 40866, the ornaments 40862, or Christmas Stocking 40958.
- For the collector with a sense of humor: the enlarged Mrs. Claus minifigure 40875.
The Winter Village tradition
Winter Village is a series that people return to every year. Sometimes for themselves, sometimes as a gift, and often both: this year's house will stand next to last year's.
That makes it one of the few sets that works just as well as a gift as it does for personal use. You don't need to know anything about LEGO to see that it fits someone who enjoys building something in December.
A practical note, because that's what matters most
Three things that weigh more in December than in October.
- Delivery time. Everything we sell is shipped from our own stock, with a delivery time of 1 to 4 days. In October, you won't notice that. In mid-December, you will. Even if you order in October, your set will still be delivered within 1 to 4 business days!
- Shipping. Shipping to Belgium is free on orders over 150 EUR.
- Doubt. If you really don't know what someone wants, there is Brick Present, our gift card. Then the recipient can choose for themselves, and that's not a lazy solution, but often the right one.
What we can do for you here
A list of new holiday sets says nothing about what works for a 6-year-old, an adult collector, or your budget. Because "what's new?" is a very different question than "what suits me?"
That’s what our Giftfinder is for: filter by age, theme, and budget, and you'll end up with a handful of options instead of a news report. Besides the current series, we also have sets that LEGO hasn't made for a long time, which sometimes yields exactly the gift that no one else can find anymore.
One thing for the sake of completeness: our Brickworld Exclusives are our own MOC builds and therefore not official LEGO sets, and our Pre-Loved sets are second-hand, with their condition listed. We always let you know exactly what you are buying.
